Fasnacht PDF Print E-mail

Fasnacht is Basel's famous carnival celebration. For three days in February or March the city is filled with music and costumes, and covered in confetti! It is probably best known for Morgestraich, which kicks off the festival at 4am Monday morning with a parade of lanterns through the darkened city. There is also a parade of competing costumed bands later that day, and many more concerts and competitions throughout the festival. The only fee required is that you buy and wear a carnival badge, which come in copper, silver or gold, and are available from vendors and shops all over the city. For more information visit the official Fasnacht Committee website, read A Guide to the Basler Fasnacht, or contact us.
